Drive a Snowmobile to the Meeting Point of Three Countries
Would you like to drive a snowmobile in Arctic Lapland but prefer personal guidance instead of joining a large group? This private tour takes you across frozen Lake Kilpisjärvi to the Three-Country Cairn, where Finland, Norway and Sweden meet.
Alongside a Northern Lights experience, a journey to the world’s northernmost tripoint is a true highlight of a winter stay in Kilpisjärvi.
The tour is suitable for both first-time and experienced snowmobile drivers. Before departure, your local private guide explains how to operate the snowmobile safely and gives you time to practice. During the journey, the guide sets a suitable pace and assists you whenever needed.
Choose How You Travel
You do not need to decide in advance who will drive or where each participant will sit. After the driving instructions and practice, you can choose on site whether to drive, ride behind another driver in your party or travel in the guide’s passenger sledge.
Participants who meet the driver requirements can change places during short stops along the way. The passenger sledge is an excellent place to enjoy the views and photograph the surrounding landscape.
Across Frozen Lake Kilpisjärvi
The route takes you across the wide, frozen expanse of Lake Kilpisjärvi. Along the way, we make a few stops to enjoy the open Arctic landscape and take photographs.
As this is a private tour for your own party, the pace can be adjusted within the available time according to the weather, snow conditions and the needs of the participants.
A Border Point Surrounded by Wilderness
The Three-Country Cairn stands in an uninhabited area where there are no roads or settlements. It was built in 1926 and marks the meeting point of Finland, Norway and Sweden – as well as two time zones.
The cairn is surrounded by Norwegian and Swedish wilderness, with Malla Strict Nature Reserve on the Finnish side. During the tour, your guide also shares stories about the history of the three countries and life in Kilpisjärvi today.
Here, far from villages and roads, you can experience how vast and quiet the northern landscape truly is.
